Santa's Helper Boy 

This tutorial was written in PSP8. You can use PSP7. 

You need my selections HERE

Unzip to a folder of choice. 

The selections are saved in Alpha Channel.

The procedure to load from Alpha Channel goes like this

Click Selections/Load/Save Selection/Load Selection from Alpha Channel.

I do not repeat this. Instead I say only Load from Alpha Channel.

 

Open the CriSantaHelperBoy psp-image. Shift+D to copy and close the original.

Feel free to make any changes you want. Remember to save often.

 

1. Click on layer foot. Load from Alpha Channel 01-crifoot.

   Flood fill with #000000 go to Selections/ Modify/Contract 1 and flood fill

   with #56A456. Keep selected and go to Selections/Float Effects/3DEffects

   cutout with these settings V/H 0 Opacity 80 Blur 20,79 #004000, keep

   selected and Add a new layer.

 

2. Grab your airbrush size 10 Hardness 25 Step 1 Density 100 Opacity 24

   #C60404 and make some stripes on the foot. Go to Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur

   and hit 1. Deselect.

 

3. Click on layer foot1 . Load from Alpha Channel 02-cri-foot1 and do the

    same steps as in step 1 and 2.

 

4. Click on layer shirt. Load from Alpha Channel 03-crishirt.

    Flood fill #000000 Selections/Modify/Contract 1 flood fill with #56A456,

    keep selected and go to Selections/Float Effects/3D Effects cutout same settings

    only change blur to 30,69. Deselect.

 

5. Click on layer shirt details. Load from Alpha Channel 04-crishirt details.

    Flood fill with #000000 and deselect.

 

6. Click on layer pants. Load 04-cripants. Flood fill with #000000 Selections/

    Modify/Contract 1 flood fill with #C60404, keep selected, Selections/Float

    Effects/3D Effects cutout with same settings but change color to #873605.

    Deselect.

 

7. Add a new layer above the shirt details layer and with your paintbrush

    paint some lines for the arms. I used size 1 Hardness 25 Step

    1 Density 100 Opacity 100 #000000.

 

8. Click on layers ears. Load from Alpha Channel 06-criears. Flood fill with

    #000000 Selections/Modify/Contract  1 and flood fill with #F7D4AF,

    keep selected, Selections/Float Selections/Effects/3D Effects cutout same

    settings but change  blur to 6.93 and color to #CB7519. Deselect.

 

9. Click on layer head. Load from Alpha Channel 07-crihead. Flood fill with

    #000000, Selections/Modify/Contract 1 flood fill with #F7D4AF

    Selections/Float/Effects/3D Effects cutout only change Blur to 29,70.

    Deselect.

 

10. Add a new VECTOR layer. Name it eye. Foreground color #000000 and

     Background color #FFFFFF. Preset Shape Ellipse, Vector and Anti-alias both

     CHECKED , Width1. Draw an ellipse for the eye. Click on the pen tool and push

     the lowest node up a bit. Convert to Raster layer. Select All/Select/Float

 

11. Add a new Raster layer. Change only the paintbrush size to 10 and color to

    #0000C0. Paint a dot in the upper part of the eye, keep selected, change size to

    7 and color to #000000 and paint another dot into the blue you just did, keep

    selected, change the size now to 2 and the color to #FFFFFF and paint a dot

    in the eye. I clicked the white two times. Deselect.

     PSP8 Merge down. (PSP 7 Make sure you X-off all the other layers but these two

     and Merge these two layers together. Rename eye. )

 

12. Right click on layer eye and Duplicate. Use the mover tool to place it.

 

13. Add a new layer and name it eyebrows. With Paintbrush #000000 Size 1

      paint some eye browns.

 

14. Add a new layer and with paintbrush same settings paint some eyelashes.

 

15. Add a new VECTOR layer. Name it mouth. Foreground color #000000

     and background closed. Click on your pen tool, Vector CHECKED Line Width 1.

     Draw a line for the mouth, right click on the left node and change it to

     symmetric. Click on the right node and change that to symmetric too.

     Grab the handle and drag it down a little bit. Do the same with the

     other handle. When you are satisfied how it looks, Convert to Raster Layer.

 

16. Add a new Raster layer. Name it cheeks. With airbrush size 25, Hardness 25

     Step 1 Density 100 and Opacity 24 click on both sides of the mouth with

     color #C60404. Go to Adjust Blur/Gaussian Blur and hit 4.  

     Load the 07-crihead from Alpha Channel again and go to Selections/Invert,

     hit Delete once. Deselect.

 

17. Add a new Raster layer. Name it nose. With your selection tool make a little

     ellipse and flood fill with #F7D4AF, keep selected and with your airbrush

     same settings you have already  #D59C5F spray lightly on the nose tip.

 

18. Click on layer hat. Load from Alpha Channel 08-crihat. Flood fill with

     #000000 Selections/Modify/Contract 1 and flood fill with #C60404

     Keep selected, Selections/Float, Effects/3D Effects cutout same settings

     but change the color to #873605. Deselect.

 

19. Click on layer hair. Load from Alpha Channel 09-crihair. Flood fill with

     #D59C5F Selections/Modify/Contract 1 flood fill #F9F611. Keep selected

     Selections/Float/Effects/3D Effects cutout with these settings V/H 0

     Opacity 80 Blur 11.88  #BB7A35. Deselect.

 

20. Click on layer hair1 , Load from Alpha Channel 10-crihair1 and do the same

      as with hair.

      Click on layer hair2. Load from Alpha Channel 11-crihair2 and do the same

      as above.

 

21. Click on layer details. Load from Alpha Channel 12-cridetails. Flood fill

     with #873605. Deselect.

 

22. Click on layer button. Load from Alpha Channel 13-cributton. Flood fill

     with #000000 Selections/Modify/Contract 1 and flood fill with

     #F9F611. Deselect. Select all/Selections/Float/ Effects/3D Effects cutout

     same settings. Deselect.

 

23. With your paintbrush Size 4 #000000 paint four dots on the button.

     Right click on the layer button and Duplicate then Image/Mirror. Use your

     move over tool to place it on the right place.

 

    Your little boy helper is now ready to help Santa Claus.

    You can merge all layers.
